Korea, a Semiconductor · IT powerhouse, can lead the renewable energy sector (Money Today Article)
On July 14, the Business Model Institute (BMI) held its research meeting at FleishmanHillard Korea.
Seung-Yong Park, Senior Advisor of the Hyosung Heavy Industries Research Institute, spoke on the subject of ‘Carbon Neutrality and Disruptive Technologies.’ He stated, “South Korea can raise its status in the field of Renewable Energy to a higher level than its current position in Information Technology (IT).” Although South Korea falls behind in terms of renewable energy and carbon neutrality, Park emphasized that a focus on renewable energy is now a must rather than a choice, as developed nations including the US are actively pushing for a significant reduction of carbon by 2030.
Another speaker, Dr. Jung-Hee Song of Women in Science, Engineering and Technology in Korea, presented on ‘Technology Concepts and Tech Company Types Through the Lens of Pre- and Post-Pandemic Venture Investment Trends.’ Dr. Song pointed out, “While venture investment trends since last year (when the COVID-19 pandemic hit) show that the number of funding cases decreased, fund sizes have increased. In particular, we have seen an increase in ‘mega-deals’ involving large-scale investments in so-called high-potential companies.” She added, “ESG investment, cryptocurrency, robotics and automation technology, and related educational content are expected to emerge this year. We also need to pay close attention to deep tech moving forward.”
The FleishmanHillard Stakeholder Engagement Center launched the ‘Business Model Institute (BMI)’ to identify issues and tasks in newly introduced business models from the perspectives of various stakeholders. Since the inauguration in 2020, BMI has continued to hold sessions on various topics and foster discussions on effective regulations and policy directions.
